Otterbein faculty to give musical performance

The Otterbein College Faculty Recital Series presents Images in Alto Clef at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, in Riley Auditorium of the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. The program is free and open to the public.

Images in Alto Clef features violist Steven Wedell of Columbus, along with pianist Suzanne Newcomb of Columbus  and Robert Jones of Columbus on clarinet.

"Music for Viola and Piano" will feature compositions by Robert Schumann and Darius Milhaud. "Pictures from Fairyland" is a four-movement work written late in Schumann’s career. "Sonata No. 2 for Viola and Piano" by Milhaud was written in 1946 in the post-Debussy French musical style. Also on the program is the "Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano" by Mozart. Nicknamed the “Kegelstatt,” this is a lesser-known chamber music work by the composer.

Steven Wedell is a full-time violist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and a faculty member with the Otterbein Department of Music. Suzanne Newcomb serves on the faculty at Otterbein and is a well-known collaborative pianist in Central Ohio. Robert Jones is second clarinet with the Columbus Symphony and serves on the faculties of Otterbein College and Denison University.
